This Saturday, join us for a workshop with visiting artist, Soledad Barrio.

So, we’ve mentioned this workshop before and you might have heard of her performance on Saturday evening at the Chan Centre (it’s going to be a good one!), but who is Soledad Barrio?

Born in Madrid, Soledad Barrio has performed and appeared as a soloist with many renowned flamenco companies, including Manuela Vargas, Blanca del Rey, Luisillo, El Guito, Manolete, Cristobal Reyes, and El Toleo, Ballet Espanol de Paco Romero, Festival Flamenco and more! She has travelled around the world and performed on four continents, dancing along side flamenco greats: Alejandro Granados, Isabel Bayón, Jesus Torres, Miguel Pérez, Manolo Marin, Javier Barón, Merce Esmeralda, Rafael Campallo and Belén Maya.

With such an extensive experience, it comes as no surprise that she has been the recipient of awards and honours worldwide and the co-founder of the flamenco company, Noche Flamenca. This Saturday, we Vancouverites are quite fortunate to have the opportunity to see Soledad and Noche Flamenca perform at the Chan Centre (Jan. 21st, 8pm).

One of Spain’s most renowned and respected flamenco dance companies, Noche Flamenca was co-founded by Soledad and her husband, Martín Santangelo, in 1993, and has become Spain’s most successful touring company. Under Señor Santangelo’s direction, the company has successfully brought all the passion, the essence, purity–the very heart and soul–of flamenco to the stage and to sold out crowds in cities everywhere (New York, Sydney, Buenos Aires, Boston, Rio de Janeiro, Montreal, Dublin, Athens… you get the idea!).

Come and learn from an incredible bailaora and catch her later in evening on stage with Noche Flamenca!
