Class description


Fall Term: Tangos
Winter Term: Guajira
The Introductory level classes will introduce dancers to the basics of flamenco movements and will teach the choreography being taught at the Beginner level. Once dancers have a good grasp of the basic structure and dance being taught, they will advance into the Beginner level class. - New dancers welcome throughout the year.
Please email or phone ahead to let us know that you will be attending.

For the month of September, Beginer level is the Introductory level.


Fall Term: Tangos
Winter Term: Guajira

First year of Flamenco. Dancers brand new to flamenco dance.


Fall Term: Garrotin
Winter Term:Abandolaos

Dancers who have taken flamenco for at least one full term and have performed al least one choreography.


Fall Term:Tientos
Winter Term: Seguirilla

Dancers have strong footwork and upper body movement. Dancers should have a solid understanding and feel of the different 12 & 8 beat rhythms. Dancers are required to take 2x per week.


Fall Term:Martinete
Winter Term:
Solea Por Buleria

Dancers will be expected to pick up dance movement quickly, demonstrate dance movement individually and to have a good understanding of the different rhythms of flamenco.
Dancers are required to take 2x per week.

Bata De Cola

Fall Term: T.B.A.
Winter Term: T.B.A.

This is a dress or skirt with a long train at the back. Dancers will learn how to master this tail in an elegant manner. Dancers will need to purchase their own bata de cola to join this class. - Bata's are ordered 2x throughout the year. August & December


IntensivelyCompany programme. Emphasis on group and individual performance and expression. Dancers perform in Theatre and Festival Performances throughout the year.

Clasico Espanol

Flamenco Ballet: Clasico training gives dancers a graceful approach to flamenco with use of castanets and lots of upper body and footwork.

Technique Drills

Different footwork and upper body combination and drills will be taught each week. Dancers will improve thier technique. No choreography will be taught. Open for drop-ins, or make-up classes.
Level I: Beginner / Elementary Level
Level II: Intermedaite / Advanced Level

Classes are accompanied by a Flamenco Guitarist.

New Students

- any low-heel shoe is accepted (flamenco shoes not required but can be purchased at The Dance Shop located at 1089 West Broadway (just west of Oak) - 10% off for Karen Flamenco Students)
- comfortable moveable clothing
- no previous dance experience needed
- new students are welcome any time during a term.

Missed Classes or unpredictable working schedule

Karen Flamenco offers 3 classes of the same level giving dancers the option of making-up missed classes or for those who have unpredictable schedules they may come to any of the 3 class times offered throughout the week.
The same choreography and technique will be taught throughout all 3 classes.

Dancers must register in the class they will be able to commit to, and will need to inform the administration of their plans to come to another class time to be sure there is space available.
